Celebrating a Milestone in the Fight Against FGM in Kajiado County
Kajiado County First Lady, H.E. Edna Lenku, today led fellow members of the County First Ladies Association (CFLA) led by their chairperson from Marsabit County H.E Alamitu Guyo Jattani, spouses and partners of Kajiado County MCAs in celebrating a landmark Anti-FGM Ceremony held in Kajiado County.
The event marked a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and to empower girls and women to live in dignity, health, and freedom.
The celebration against FGM by the First Ladies comes at the beginning of the One Week Maa Cultural & Tourism Festival, that is currently being held at the Amboseli National Park Upto Saturday. The First Ladies are now headed to the festivals.
In her remarks, H.E. Edna Lenku commended the community for embracing positive cultural transformation and reaffirmed her commitment to championing initiatives that protect and uplift the girl child.
She emphasized that ending FGM is not solely a women’s issue, but a collective responsibility that requires collaboration among men, women, leaders, and youth to ensure a safer, more equitable future for every girl in Kajiado County and beyond.
The celebration brought together leaders from the national and county governments, civil society organizations, and development partners, all united under the call to:
“Say No to FGM and Yes to Education, Health, and Empowerment.”
